Desiring an outdoor entertaining area that could be used year-round, an outdoor pavilion and internal renovation was planned. Our brief was to create a relaxed, functional environment and improve the flow between spaces in this family friendly home.

Working within the existing building footprint, clever spatial planning was required to create a large open plan living area. The kitchen was to flow into the outdoor barbecue area, the main bathroom and laundry were to remain in their current location, and we were to provide room for a study. A lot to rework into a modest 90m2.

After flipping the kitchen and lounge room, we concealed the study behind joinery as it wraps from the hallway through the dining room, and made minor reconfigurations to the wet area and laundry, all for a natural flow through the home. Smart storage solutions, space for the furniture to breathe and a holistic approach to materials, colour and lighting all contribute to the contemporary scandi aesthetic. With a modest open plan living area, installing large stacking sliding doors maximised the space for entertaining, allowing the rear of the home to expand open. Another challenge, creating a separate WC with external vanity, was solved in modifying the laundry footprint and reducing the size of the main bathroom.

The layering of textures in this white-on-white interior with black detailing and subtle hints of calming blue creates a warm, relaxed and welcoming interior. Furniture selected to suit the scale of rooms and design aesthetic created a space ready to move in for the client to make their own.
