Our client at Toorak Gardens was initially hunting for a new home within the same locality. After struggling to find anything comparable to their existing home, they instead sought our services to see what was possible, working within their existing space.

As an avid cook and entertainer, our client found that their existing home didn’t lend itself to their desired lifestyle. An internal wall separated the original kitchen from the living and dining areas, limiting the space around the dining table and leaving our client removed from guests when preparing a meal. By removing the internal wall and flipping the dining and kitchen areas, the functionality of the space has been greatly improved, and our client can now entertain more than three people in their new space.

Another challenge was ensuring any proposed works would not see the client completely overcapitalise on their homette. By limiting the structural building works and maximising the function of fixed elements, we were able to accommodate how the client wanted to live within the parameters of the existing space. Through detailed discussions with our client to understand how they worked within their kitchen, we were able to accommodate sufficient storage for household items, a wine cabinet, an appliance cupboard, and a broom cupboard – all without compromising on kitchen bench space, flow, or function.

Aesthetically, our client is a lover of deep earthy colours. Of all the objects accumulated over their lifetime, the one piece that is cherished beyond all others is a painting. This is a beautiful piece that features tonal greens, ochre, and taupe: these colours have been reflected through the kitchen, banquette seat, kitchen island, and laundry joinery. The final element that will bring the whole vision together is the furniture. Carefully curated over months of searching and consideration, the lounge suite, rug, coffee tables, stools, dining table, and chairs will infuse this space with colour and texture.

It was a pleasure to work on this project and we know that our client will love and enjoy making this space truly their own.
